What is your background, and how has it influenced what you do today?
My background is information technology and computer science. I have been passionate about technology ever since I had my first experience with computers. I love applying my passion to my work. Ever since my first job in the payment card industry, I’ve been curious to learn more and more about how technology applies in this sophisticated industry. This industry never stops changing, whether it’s increasing the security of transactions or improving the user experience at checkout. There’s a lot of innovation.
What do you think is the most interesting piece of new technology today? (And / or how do you see the technology landscape changing in the next 5 – 10 years?)
To me, the most fascinating technology is mobile computing, which includes anything from smartphones and tablets to iOT devices and automotive computing. This technology is changing our lives (for good or bad) every day. It’s hard to imaging that we all carry one or more devices with computing power that exceeds the performance of a dream computer from early 2000!
And all of this now comes with permanent connectivity to Internet. If one extrapolates the trends looking back 10 years, it might blow you away to think about what our lives will be like 10 years from now. AR and VR will play huge part in our lives, supported by much stronger computing power. Technology will also surround us, from smart homes through transportation and into our offices.
What’s your best piece of advice for technology executives to keep on top of the rapidly evolving tech space?
Stay on top of modern technology developments. It may be hard, but it’s extremely entertaining and engaging. Also pay attention to security matters in your industry’s technology. The IoT is one of the biggest trends, and it’s at the top of the priority list for the dark side of technology (hackers, technological spies, hostile regimes and governments). Do not underestimate the role of security in any technology. Protect your company by investing in penetration testing and the continuous development of your overall security policy.
