We asked her four important questions. Her answers are below:
How did your career as a communications executive take off, and what do you attribute your success to most?
During my last semester of college, I was determined to be in the small minority of graduating students who would land a job in their field of study. I landed an awesome internship in the communications department of the large school district in the area and got to work directly with the Communications Director. Two months before graduation, I began applying for PR and communications jobs all over. After what seemed like an eternity, I got an interview with Madwire and ultimately received a job offer two weeks before I graduated. Almost seven years later, I have never looked back. I attribute my success to being surrounded by the most innovative, talented and hard-working team on the planet, every single day. The Madwire founders believed in me and fostered an environment that enabled me to grow. And before long, I was spearheading the entire PR and communications strategy. It’s been a wild ride, but I love every minute.
How do you keep yourself passionate and driven regardless of how busy you are day to day?
One thing I love about the industry that we are in is that it’s ever-changing. That alone keeps me passionate, driven, and hungry for more knowledge. The culture at Madwire also lends itself to passion. Joe, JB and Jerry (the three partners) are involved in the day-to-day and are so passionate about what we do, it just trickles down to the entire team. You will not find a more passionate or driven group of people. It comes down to the people around you. Surround yourself with passionate and driven people and you, yourself, will be passionate and driven.
What do you see as the future of the communications industry?
Ever changing and growing! As technology advances, the communications industry advances. The way we communicate is vastly different than the way we communicated even 10 years ago. We must adapt and change strategies as the world around us changes.
What is your best communications strategy tip for businesses?
Use every channel available. A communications strategy can’t be limited to just traditional methods. Think outside the box.
