Answer: Assign Strong Leaders, Follow a Detailed Plan, and Adjust Regularly
In September of 2018, my company received $69 million in new business. In order to meet the priorities of our new customers, we had to staff 46 positions in 6 states. In addition, project milestones mandated initial staffing of 26 positions within 6 weeks. We completed project start-up on time and our project and team leads continue to meet and exceed customer deadlines and performance levels.
Strong leadership and commitment were the key to successful completion of initial project staffing, and continuing at a high performance level. This was possible because we: (1) Assigned strong leaders and organized the team to maximize efficiency and communication, (2) Followed a detailed plan, and tracked milestones and defined results, and (3) Met regularly to discuss risks and opportunities, and adjusted strategies and actions as needed.
Over the months, I learned that the effect of innovation, selfless leadership, and success on a team is greater than I had believed. Success confirmed the value of commitment and cohesive teamwork. And success confirmed the team’s ability to achieve goals that initially seemed impossible. This is key to the company’s future growth and performance.
