Co-Founder and Culture Designer
Jamie is a founder and culture consultant at Human Workplaces, where he helps leaders drive growth by activating and aligning workplace culture. He began his career in the international conflict resolution field, running training programs in areas of ethnic conflict in the 1990s. He transitioned into organizational work, initially as a diversity trainer and consultant, and later leading his own management consulting practice, where he specialized in helping systems work through their most difficult conversations. In 2014, he and Maddie Grant started Culture That Works (now Human Workplaces), a workplace culture consultancy, and in 2016 they also joined forces with Charlie Judy to create WorkXO and the Workplace Genome culture assessment, which they use extensively in their consulting practice. Jamie and Maddie have written three books together (When Millennials Take Over, The Non-Obvious Guide to Employee Engagement, and Humanize). An accomplished and sought-after keynote speaker, Jamie carries a master’s degree in conflict resolution from George Mason University, and a Certificate in Organization Development from Georgetown, where he serves as adjunct faculty.
Human Workplaces is a culture management firm created by Maddie Grant and Jamie Notter that uses culture analytics and customized consulting and resources to help organizations align culture with growth, engagement, and innovation. For ten years, Notter and Grant have been researching, writing, and consulting on cutting edge issues surrounding the future of work, and through Human Workplaces they engage in deep projects with clients related to culture, digital strategy, and employee engagement. Co-creators of the Workplace Genome culture assessment, they use their tool with clients to create a clear picture of their culture's current state and then develop concrete action plans for improving it.
